A
snake whip is so called because they have no handle and can be curled up into a
small circle looking just like a snake to the unwary. In the old days new chums
would be frightened by the old hands on stations when they would leave one of
these whips curled on the ground for the new chum to stumble across and watch
the reaction, mostly near heart attacks because these new chums where for the
most part freshly arrived from England and had most probably never seen a snake.
No TV in those days so they had to amuse themselves somehow.
There are two kinds of
snake whip, a pocket snake which can be curled up small enough to fit into a
large pocket and comes in sizes from 4ft to 6ft.They are 3/4 of an inch in
diameter at the butt end.
A
full size snake whip is one inch in diameter at the butt end and is a much
heavier whip. It comes in sizes from 4ft to infinity.
Both these types of
snake whips are made with a leather shot bag running approximately 3/4 the
length of the whip. This bag is filled with a no 12 shot which we
have specially made for us.12 shot is much finer than shot normally used
in shot loaded whips and therefore packs down tighter making a denser
whip. Around this shot bag is placed a full leather bolster, then an 8
plait kangaroo hide belly is plaited over this. Next another bolster and
then the final overlay of 12 plait kangaroo hide for the pocket snake and
16 plait kangaroo hide for the full size snake whip. All our whips come
with replaceable white hide falls and nylon crackers.

these whips come supplied with 3 spare falls and 10 extra crackers.
Also supplied is a CD or DVD, (your choice) showing some basic whip
cracking, how to change your fall and cracker, how to make your own
crackers and basic whip
maintenance.
I can now also offer a nickel ring with 2 initials engraved into the
ring and held in place by 2 decorative knots for $40.00 extra or a
sterling silver ring with 2 initials held in place by
2 smaller
sterling silver rings for $70.00. A combination of these two can also
