MAKE YOUR OWN POPPER
(It's easy)

Here in Australia , especially in the farming communities, baling twine is very popular for making crackers or poppers. For one thing it's easy to come by, tons of the stuff get thrown away or burnt every year. You want the twine that comes of the big round bales, it's a lot thinner than the square bale twine. If the thicker twine is all you can get then you will have to halve it. Where do you get it? I'm sure that everyone must know some one who either lives on a farm or you know some one who knows some one who lives on a farm. If not take a drive in the country and ask a farmer if he has any old baling twine he can spare then stand back while he fills your trunk with twine. If you don't wish to use twine and want to spend money on nylon cords and such you can still use this method of making your crackers only , because it will be thinner than the twine, you will have to use more of it. The twine mightn't last as long as some cords but it's easy to come by and it's free plus on whips 6ft and over it really goes off with a bang. Once you get the hang of making your own poppers you won't look back ,

First you will need an anchor point, onto this tie your 2ft piece of twine or cord and on the other end form a loop. Hold this with your finger , insert a pencil and twist. Once you have the twine twisted up reasonably tight, not too tight, middle your strand as shown and let it go where you have your finger in the middle and it will twist up on itself. Now simply tie a knot about 4 inches from the end and snip it off even with a pair of scissors and  you have your own hand made cracker or popper and you will never again have to buy another one because you still have a trunk full of baling twine that your local friendly farmer or rancher gave you when you went for your trip in the country.
If your feeling lazy or have a lot of poppers to make why not try the drill method . Just get a cup hook and stick it into a drill. Tie your cord onto this and turn the drill on. Best done with a drill with a variable speed control otherwise you can get a bit of overtwist if your not careful. Be careful, I don't need anyone suing me, You do this at your own risk.
